I am not a shy person at all! Being a wedding photographer that trait sure comes in handy. I do, however, understand that sometimes people truly do not like to be photographed!
I have had my share of couples or at least the bride or the groom that really are uncomfortable in front of the lens. I have some advice whether you are a photographer or especially if you are the couple.
First pick your photographer carefully! If you feel a level of comfort in the initial meeting, you are off to a good start! This will certainly help on the wedding or engagement session.
What I do is first try to catch some candid shots while we are just warming up, I watch my couple interact together always looking for a moment to capture.
Having a couple totally relaxed will ensure beautiful photos! I usually give lots of direction to the couple and I do it quickly so there is no time for them to think about how they look etc. I give my groom prompts to tell her a joke, whisper maybe in her ear and I do it for each of them to take turns. I also have them walking alot, and kissing alot!
All in all, the key is just be yourself! And also remember that it is all about the feeling you have between each other and that is the most important thing for a photographer to capture! Laugh alot, kiss alot and enjoy these moments! You only do it once!!
Happy Shooting!!
