Family portraits are an important part of your wedding day, though not always the most anticipated. Here are a few quick pieces of advice for scheduling family photos and making the most of your photographer’s time:
1. Be mindful and intentional when building your list of family portraits. Make sure every single photo has a purpose and a final destination (i.e. will Cousin Mary want to frame a photo of you with her parents? Will “all of the boys” in the family want to print that photo for their home?)
2. Consider the time it takes to photograph every different group; for ease’s sake, create your list knowing that every different family photo is another 3 minutes of time. This will help you manage the list and your time effectively.
3. Remind family that they are expected (or not expected?) to stay after the ceremony for photos. Once family starts to hit cocktail hour, you’ll be herding cats and wasting precious time trying to steer them back to family portraits.
