There is so much planning that goes into each and every wedding. Sometimes I just wonder how the bride and groom get it all done! It never ceases to amaze me at what these wonderful couples accomplish. From the day that they book their venue all the way through til the day they say “I Do” it is an incredibly busy time for sure.
As a photographer, as soon as I book my couple I immediately start to help them through the though process. It is always good to have someone to bounce things off of that is not a family member and that is where I come in. Pretty details and lighting are two of my most favorite things on a wedding day. The details for photographing and making lots of pretty, but the lighting from a technical standpoint is super important for me to guarantee awesome, beautiful images!
Choosing your decor is so important and as a couple always remember to incorporate your pretty color theme from your special day. Choose flowers that are your favorites for sure. Also using engagement photos and photos from your first days of dating are also a beautiful way to decorate your venue. Anything that is personal and special should be a part of your decor.
When there is natural light, I will always go with no fill flash or off camera flash. When it is needed, I will totally incorporate some off camera flash and on camera flash to create what I call a beautiful “canopy of light”. I love drama and dimension especially in my reception photographs where the venue is usually a bit dark and moody and I can do some fun things with my flash system. And remember couples, leave the lighting worry to your photographer!
This wedding in particular was wonderful and it was a midday wedding in a college that had the most beautiful natural light. All images were taken with no flash system at all. All the natural ambient light that poured through the beautiful full length windows made the images so natural and soft. But don’t worry, if the flash is needed, I can create some beautiful images that way too!!
